I've been reading a lot about Lincoln lately (I know, I know, he's all the rage--but for good reason). The quote that has been running through my mind:
Die when I may, I want it said by those who knew me best that I always plucked a thistle and planted a flower where I thought a flower would grow.
I've always thought of this on the big scale: ways we should look at the world around us for those thistles needing to be replaced by flowers (you know, like we did on November 4th this year :)). But it has equal implications on a micro scale, within my own life, in the small everyday things I do and decisions I make. Our family is making some changes that seem small in the scheme of things, but cumulatively, I can see how being mindful of those thistles and flowers has made a big difference in the long run.
That and a nice healthy dose of antidepressants, of course. Which reminds me . . . I have a pill to take before I bid you goodnight. Happy Thursday.
